The Obama I see in the video below has been conspicuously absent from the daily back and forth since he came back from his world tour. He needs to do more of this.
I saw John McCain stumping today and it was literally like he was saying that Obama's energy plan was solely comprised of tire gauges. Which is of course immensely ironic given the fact that Obama's energy plan seems much more forward thinking and it gets much more specific with regards to plans for alternative fuels and reducing our overall consumption. Compared to the McCain "we need to drill now and expand nuclear," it is a far more comprehensive plan even if I don't agree with every aspect of it. McCain's approach seems to be almost exclusively supply oriented - that is we need more energy, period. Well, McCain is half right. We do need more energy, but we can also reduce our demand for energy. This side of the story I am only hearing from Obama.
Obama could go around handing out drill bits but that's probably not his style. Instead he just calls McCain's team out on their taking "pride in being ignorant." I'm not so sure that McCain is as ignorant as he is making himself look. If you go to his website you will see that he touches on many of the important issues and addresses both supply and demand and even takes a stab at clean alternative fuels. But given his one-sided rhetoric, I don't see how McCain is going to come out on top of this energy debate. Compare John McCain's website to Barack's speech below (there appears to be a dearth of McCain energy policy speeches on YouTube).
What Obama accomplishes in a 30 minute speech, McCain doesn't given all the time and webspace in the world. This is probably the fairest match up. But if you want to see Obama blow McCain out of the water and you have way too much time on your hands check out McCain's website and then check out Obama's. The contrast is pretty stark
