Offshore disappointment
First of all, as if it needed expressing, I love Barack. But the recent admission by Obama that he could support offshore drilling under certain circumstances is ultimately disappointing. Perhaps he is smarter than I or more politically deft. But it is nonetheless disappointing. I can not think of any arguments - other than political ones - that could be made in support of this idea. Offshore drilling, according to most experts on the matter, at best, would have tangible results in ten years. From what I have heard 5 years before drilling can actually occur and 5 years before there is a product that is purchasable.
Obama knows that offshore drilling is not the right answer. He knows that investing in alternative fuels and energies is the future (which is exactly where we will be in ten years). The slogan goes... Drill Here, Drill Now, Pay Less... But in an attempt to "feel your pain" he is forsaking logic in favor of political expedience. He is in Florida afterall. But in a state that is tailor made for McCain is is only running behind by half a point according to Real Clear Politics. Perhaps he knows congress and its inner workings better than I and he is seeking compromise to move forward. It is an unnecessary concession in my opinion. But maybe he understands the electorate better than I too. After all, as much as I disapprove, I will most likely end up voting for him anyway. Hmmm...

This is very very very disappointing to hear about. You almost had me convinced that Obama actually stood for change. This is another example of the weakness of the Democratic party and how there is little difference between them and the Republicans. First he refuses public campaign financing, then this?
It's good that you see the fact that offshore drilling won't be a direct influence on lowering the price of oil (although will cause speculators to bring down the price for a short time). I just wish the American public was also aware of this. You forgot to mention the real problem with the offshore drilling, which is that the oil companies really only want more leases on oil supply, allowing them more control over the supply of oil and thus, control over the price of oil. If anyone is able to find a way to lift the congressional ban, the oil companies will be receiving the best Christmas present since the beginning of the war in Iraq.
Back to our disappointment with Obama, how many 180s are you going to allow him to make on the issues before you wake up and realize that maybe he isn't the true proponent for change that he claims he is?
Is it also true that Obama supports government spending on nuclear power? Funny how our politicians can't see their own feet beyond their own pockets. Is it possible to have a politician that will actually pay attention to the people or in the case of power--the markets? How come politicians are pushing so much for nuclear when there is so much private investment in renewables, and what is it...ZERO in nuclear?
The two party corporate government can kiss my ass. What did you say I was again? A Libertarian? I say get as many Green's and Independent's into local office and state congress/senate as possible and when we see the change that is brought by politicians that truly represent the values of the people, we might be on our way of ridding the country of any future liars like your boy Barack.
